CREDIT CARD PROCESSOR SETTLES WITH DISCOVER CARD FOR $5 MILLION AFTER DATA BREACH

Heartland Payment Systems has agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by Discover for $5 million.  The lawsuit was filed after the credit card processor’s data security system failed to prevent hackers from stealing an estimated 130 million credit and debit card numbers!  Heartland has already settled with Visa for $60 million and MasterCard for over $41 million.  The card issuers say the settlement monies will go towards the cost to replace the compromised credit and debit cards.
Have you received a breach notification letter from your credit card company or bank about the Heartland data breach?  If you have, you had better request your free credit report and review it for fraudulent accounts.  All incorrect accounts should be disputed to all three of the big three consumer reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian and Trans Union.  Need help?
